Walks Program

Listed below is a summary of the programmed activities of the Melbourne Bushwalkers for the present or selected month.  The walks are linked to previews when available.

Searchable databases of Trip Previews (March 2005+) and Trip Notes (trip reviews) are available to assist future trip planning and for general reference.  The previews and trip notes also appear in the newsletters.

For general information about walking activities see Introduction to Walking Activities and Introduction to Overnight Bushwalking and notes below.

Notes:

  1. Near the walk date check the program and preview for any notes on changes or additional information or visit the "Walks Program Announcements" Discussion Forum to check for any postings by the trip leader
  2. The starting date given for a multi-day activity is usually the day before the activity starts. For example, a weekend trip is usually shown as starting on the Friday because most people will travel the long distance to the activity area on the Friday evening.
  3. Bookings for Sunday walks can be made at the Clubroom on each of the two Wednesdays before the walk.  No advance bookings beyond the following two Sundays.  No telephone bookings for Sunday walks.
  4. Bus transport (Sunday walks).  Meet in Southbank Boulevard, south side of the Arts Centre, before 9am (or 8:30am when specified).  Leader or deputy will be there; rain, hail or shine.  Occasionally, if there is an event near Southbank Boulevard, the bus will leave from the Clubroom and this will be noted on the walk program and preview.
  5. Cancellation of Sunday walk booking: To qualify for credit, the leader of the walk must be notified before the walk and a satisfactory reason be given. For credit notes see the Sunday Walks Co-ordinator or delegated person on Wednesday club nights.
  6. Fire risk - Sunday walks.  The walks committee as part of the Summer Program will select two or more coastal or metropolitan walks for which there are good track notes available and which can be led without previewing. In the event of a total fire ban day in the walk area, and the walk being in a high fire risk area, the leader shall relocate the walk to one of the metro or coastal walks selected by the committee, or another suitable walk of the leader’s choice, unless the walk can be suitably modified to make it adequately safe to the satisfaction of the Sunday Walks Secretary. A total fire ban day will be an acceptable excuse for pulling out of the walk and qualifying for a credit note, provided the leader is notified no later than 7pm Saturday.
  7. Fire risk - private transport trips.  These trips will be entirely at the leader’s discretion to modify, relocate or cancel, having regard to the potential dangers of the walk area.  The leader will endeavour to contact all participants if the trip is cancelled or relocated.
