Walks
The
upcoming walks
program gives a range of walks and their grading. If you are a
first-time walker we recommend that you go on the easy walks until you
know your capabilities.
- Sunday Day Walks: Conducted nearly every Sunday
throughout the year, with easy- and medium graded walks. Transport
is by Coach (Bus)
- Saturday Walks: Usually in the Dandenong
Ranges, typically half-day walks, of easy or easy medium standard.
- Saturday Historical Rambles:
in and around Melbourne's suburbs, typically of half-day duration,
easy standard.
- Wednesday Day Walks: By private transport, usually the
middle Wednesday of each month.
- Thursday Day Walks: Designed for senior members of the
club, the old fogies (TOFS) walk on the first Thursday of the month,
usually within 70kms of Melbourne and around 10-11 kms. Easy
walking, mostly on bush tracks.
- Weekend Trips: Full weekend trips:- some involve pack
carrying others are base camps. These are run on most weekends
throughout the year.
Equipment Hire
The club has a range of
gear available for hire, at reasonable
rates. Preference is given to visitors (Temporary Members) and new members. If you are
interested, ask for the Equipment Officer at the information desk in
the Clubrooms. Equipment available includes day packs, weekend packs,
sleeping bags, tents and sleeping mats.
Transport
For Sunday walks,
bus transport is provided. The bus normally
leaves from the bus stop in Southbank Boulevard near St Kilda Road
(adjacent to the Art Gallery) at 9.00 am SHARP. BUT check with the
leader when booking as sometimes we leave earlier if the walk is a
fair way from Melbourne.
Other walks are by private transport and occasionally by public
transport (as mentioned above)
Qualifying for Membership
In order to qualify for membership, you must complete either three
day walks or two weekend walks within 12 months. This is not as
difficult as it may seem, and does give you are good chance to decide
whether our Club suits you. You must be proposed and seconded by two members who
were on your qualifying walks (usually but not necessarily the leaders
of these walks). All walks are qualifying walks unless otherwise
indicated.
